**Katyar Kaljat Ghusli **is the story of a young Parsi boy, Kaka Petros, who grows up in Bombay during British rule. He befriends an Anglo-Indian girl, Katyar Kajoonsoo, who inspires him to speak English. As they grow up together in an increasingly rich and competitive society their friendship is affected by their social differences. Kaka's acceptance of the English language and growing sophistication in society cause a rift between them. Katyar fears that being friends with a Parsi boy will exclude her from the Anglo-Indian social circle, while Kaka seems willing to trade off his family's wealth in order for her to be happy. In this story about an important time in Bombay's history, we find a glimpse into the tremendous tensions between two old communities who have shared India for centuries.
